Today we have our first blog guest. I was so taken with the reversible Honey Gum Dolly Dresses that Kelly from Curtiepie shared in the Ainslee Fox Sewing Den that I asked if she’d share the “how to” with everyone. Read on to find out how to get twice the fun from one dress.
Reversible Dolly Honeygum Dress
Cut your pattern pieces, making sure to cut a skirt piece from you 2nd fabric (lining).
Sew your bodice pieces as per the instructions.
After pressing the shoulder seams, fold up the bottom edge of the front and back pieces 1cm and press. Unfold the pressed edges and place the 2 bodices right sides together, following your instructions to complete your bodice.
Once you have turned your bodice, fold your pressed bottom edges up into the bodice.
Pin your 2 skirt pieces right sides together and sew both sides and bottom edge with a 1cm seam allowance.
Clip your corners, then turn, press and topstitch. Sew 2 rows of basting stitches at the top of your skirt. Mark your skirt at the centre and quarter marks for even gathering.
Gather your skirt to fit the bodice.
Place your skirt inside the bodice, so that the bottom of the fabric just covers you bottom basting stitch, matching your quarter marks with the side seams and your centre mark to the centre of the bodice.
Pin your skirt in place before topstitching your bodice, making sure you catch both sides of the bodice with your stitch.
Finish with Velcro or snaps as preferred
One dress, twice the fun !
